Metroid: Fusion Suit Redesign by imDRUNKonTEA Metroid: Fusion Suit Redesign by imDRUNKonTEA

After being infected by the X Parasite, Samus Aran is rescued by the Galactic Federation, which successfully counters the parasite through their use of a Metroid-based vaccine. However, it was soon discovered that Samus’ suit was also infected by the X Parasite. While the Federation was successful in removing most of the suit for examination, several components were too integrated with Samus’ body to be separated safely.

The infection continued to spread throughout the parts of the suit still attached to Samus, mutating and growing to replace the components which had been removed. Because of the vaccine, Samus’ body was able to accept the changes without harm, and she soon found herself wearing what became known as the Fusion Suit.

Although comparatively lightly armored compared to her other suits, the Fusion Suit’s biomechanical nature allows for unprecedented mobility and regenerative properties. The lack of magnetized boots and thrusters means that Samus must rely on her grappling hook and the grips on her palm and soles to maneuver in a space environment. At the same time, the suit retains her signature arm cannon and morph ball abilities, while adding several features for close quarters combat.

Despite being incomplete, the Fusion Suit proved more than capable of handling Samus’ mission and ultimately defeating the Omega Metroid in orbit around SR388.

I always thought that the Metroid: Fusion suit looked funky compared to Samus' other suits, so I decided to redesign it to be more of an organic design to set it apart from the typical mechanical exoskeleton that she wears. Also used this as an opportunity to practice a character sheet style that I'd be happy with in case I want to do some future designs.

Lots of trial and error, but it was a fun project to work on. Hope you enjoy!

The pincer on her arm cannon looks Space Piratey.

You have a serious knack for redesigning already iconic designs. Very creative! I am extremely fond of the use of muscle structure in this, although I will say the helmet looks strange and bug like?

The best redsign concepts are the ones that manage to keep the original sprit, while bring something new to the table. You've managed to do both, and in splendid fashion. Well done man.

Thank you! I'm really glad you think it captures the original spirit - I really did like its colors and theme, just thought that the renderings looked too simple and cartoony is all :)

:iconohmyglobplz: THIS IS SO AWESOME. I love how much more organic you made it look! The space pirate-ish claw and the Metroid-looking helmet are nice touches.

Excellent! I love how you gave the armor a more biological look (something that's been missing in the games).

Also I couldn't help but notice a recolor on the torso area. Great job. It really draws attention away from the... Uh.. butt area...

dat...uh...torso ;)

haha thanks! I love the idea of a biological armor, just as a contrast to all the mechanical stuff we usually see.
